The monetisation of analytics has been around for a long time, with companies built around providing key insights to allow their customers to make better decisions. However, in a traditional setting, Data Visualisation is seldom looked at as a product.
A typical product development would involve research, wireframing, prototyping, development, user testing, launch programmes, communications, maintenance & upgrades, and retirement. Most companies instead create reports continuously, and the result is chaos and confusion with old visualisations persisting through time without being retired, and multiple views reporting the same numbers. This duplication adds to mistrust in data and time-wasting. Is there a better way?
There is much to be said for learning from other industries, and Data Visualisation can certainly learn from product development to make sure it builds relevant products that are well maintained and used across the business, improving decision-making and trust in data.
Join David at DataVizLive on 10 November, and get the chance to ask questions and learn more about how to re-think your approach to Data Visualisation, and instil a Product Development mindset in your Data Visualisation team.
